    Change in Leadership

Fred Boekel and Larry Vogel have decided to step down from their leadership positions in the Spartan Lacrosse Program.   Fred and Larry were instrumental in launching the Program and have done a wonderful job of developing it.  Now that their sons have graduated from the Program and moved on to the high school ranks, they have decided to turn over the reigns.

Tom Thomas was approved by the Spartan Board of Directors to serve as the new Director of Boys Lacrosse.  Tom has coached in the Program for the past 2 years and will coach a 4th grade team for the 2008 season.  Dan Bowman was approved by the Board to serve as the Lacrosse Delegate. Dan is the Head Lacrosse Coach for Smoky Hill High School.

    Merger Ratified -- New League

For the past several years, youth lacrosse in Colorado has been divided among 2 leagues -- the CJLA, in which the Spartans played, and the CLL. In mid -October of 2007 the 2 leagues announced an intent to merger and form the CYLA. The merger was ratified and the first CYLA meeting was held on Thursday, November 29th.

This merger is good for youth lacrosse in Colorado and for the Spartans program.  It will present some changes and new opportunities like:

    • New Opponents - DLC, Blue Sky, Parker Hawks and more
    • Regional Scheduling
    • New rules governing team composition - Competitive/Try-out teams at 6th - 8th grade levels

    8th grade Select Team

The Spartans will form an 8th grade select team for the more committed and competitive players to band together to develop and test their skills at a competitive level.  All 8th grade players are invited to take part in the selection process for the select team.
