| FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) |

- My son played football in another state. Should I sign him up for an NFC or AFC team?
If your son played football before and in some instances, has never played before, then you are strongly encouraged to request an NFC tryout! ALL PLAYERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TRY OUT FOR THE NFC! The NFC consists of players who are more committed and understand the game of football and are just looking for a more competitive experience.
- It's the beginning of August and I haven't heard from my coach yet. Does that mean I didn't get a place on the team?
You should then e-mail the Football Director as all kids get placed if they register before the deadline date. Our club is so big that oftentimes kids are getting placed at the last minute.
Almost all our applicants who register before the late deadline will be placed on a team! Players who register after the cutoff date are placed on an as needed basis with no guarantee of placement.
- My son is small for his age. Can he play with kids a year younger than he is?
He may play with younger kids as long as 20% or more of that roster is not filled by play downs. For example, on a roster of 20 kids we may have only 4 playdowns.
- I would like to help coach. Who do I talk to?
Once your son is placed on a team you may talk with the head coach about assisting him with his practice. All requests for head coaching positions need to go through the Football Director and every coach must pass a CBI background check.
- Is it necessary to go to the camps listed on the web site?
It is not necessary to go to a camp if you plan on attending the official AYL Spartan tryout camp but please be aware that most coaches will pick kids from all the camps and their rosters may be filled by the time we have our AYL mandated tryout camp. There is no guarantee that by attending any of the camps that your son will be picked up by an NFC team.
- Who decides whether a player trying out at a camp for the NFC makes it on a team?
During the open NFC tryout, NFC coaches will be there evaluating players based on skill, agility, speed and knowledge and will choose those kids that they feel will help these teams and these kids will help fill these NFC rosters.
- How far away are the games?
Game locations may change this year depending on the drought conditions, with a majority of Spartans games being played at the New Aurora sports complex which is located at Colfax and Dunkirk St. We will also use Harlow Park at Belleview and Lowell Blvd on the West side of town. Games will also be played as far south as Castle Rock.
- Can my son play on a team with his friend (cousin, sibling, etc.)?
He may play on a AFC team with his friend if that is requested at the time of registration. We will do everything within our power to make this happen. There is no guarantee with an NFC team as it would be totally up to the parent and coach to make this happen.
- My son does not live within the Spartan borders, but would like to play on a Spartan team. Can he do that?
He can play if he lives out of territory as long as there is not more then 20% out of territory kids on one team.
- Can I request a coach for my son?
NFC teams are put together by the individual coaches and therefore you must obtain permission from the coach first in order to play on his team. Coach preferences may be added to the registration application for AFC teams. They are taken into consideration when teams are being formed, but such placement cannot be guaranteed.
